Karjolca lounge chair

The shape of Karjolca lounge chair was inspired by different variations of shapes of a wheelbarrows that have been in use in Slovenia throughout many years and are therefore a part of our culture.

Karjola is an old name for a wheelbarrow. There are also a few other names for a wheelbarrow that evolved through the history of usage, depending on the region of Slovenia. A wheelbarrow is a small hand-propelled vehicle, usually with just one wheel, designed to be pushed and guided by a single person using two handles at the rear, or by a sail to push the ancient wheelbarrow by the wind. Throughout history and today, it’s used for transporting stones, soil, manure, hay...

PUST - CARNIVAL Through history and now Pust Carnival is an important tradition in Slovenia. It is an old custom and habit, a festival to scare away the winter. The most famous mask is Kurent, which scares away the winter with strong noise and announces the beginning of spring. Carnivals are usually happening in smaller villages and last through the whole week. Children go from house to house and collect change or sweets. Although winters are no longer as cold as they once were, the culture of the carnival is still alive. The graphics for the chair were carved from the image of the masks that were used in these carnivals and adapted to fit the shape of Karjolca chair.

Have an inspiring day!
